Dinner, staying close by

Lab Eat — In Casbeno, opened recently. Tiny, and they are good at what they do. Reasonable prices.

La Vinoteque — Also in Casbeno, very intimate. Italian cooking, high quality, genuine atmosphere. Worth it if price is not a concern.

Trattoria Osteria del Centenate — In Casbeno. Traditional Lombard cooking, unpretentious and welcoming.

Pub Unibirra — Strongly recommended if you care about craft beer.

A cheap lunch, the very local way

People from Varese have two options in their tradition: a slice of pizza from Zei, or a sandwich from Golden Egg. Everything else is globalisation.

If you would rather sit down, and Ligurian cooking appeals to you — we are mad about it — Basilico is a little place we recommend. Fifteen minutes on foot, or comfortably by car. Do not lose your mind looking for parking: leave the car at the Autosilo Sempione car park.

Breakfast

Our favourite for breakfast is Caffè Beccaria, very close to the house.

If you feel like walking into the centre — fifteen minutes — we are very fond of the Pasticceria Tipica Siciliana on via Bernascone.

Aperitivo

For a genuinely local experience, Bar Balthazar is the most iconic place in town. And if you happen to run into Skizzo, the owner, you will get a taste of authentic Varesinità: the classic tireless entrepreneur, enormously sociable, enterprising and good company.
